SERVICES GAMMA-EXPLORATION
Our szintillation counters allow quantitatively and qualitatively results. Therefore, a large number of geo-physical analyses are possible.

COUNTERFEIT GOLD BULLIONS ARE NO LEGEND
Gold counterfeiting and frauds with regard to precious metals are well-known. For some years now cases of gold and silver counterfeiting have become more frequent. The precious metal gold which has particularly increased in the price is preferably furnished with tungsten by counterfeiters. Tungsten has almost the same density like gold.
In accordance with current estimations of the Bullion Dealer Association, up to one million of bullions have a nucleus out of tungsten. However, also nuclei out of brass or lead appeared after the bullions had been sawn up. On a smaller scale the silver counterfeiting is also profitable. The currently revealed cases are probably only the “tip of the iceberg“.
The counterfeiters frequently act in a very clever way, so that counterfeiting with “conventional“ examination methods remain undiscovered. The crooks often counterfeit so ingeniously that neither the sound test, density or weight control or X-ray fluorescence analysis provide an evidence for existing counterfeiting. The X-ray fluorescence method is a frequently used type of analysis, with which however only few micrometers below the surface can be determined. In this, the “inner life“ remains unknown. By means of deviously counterfeited bullions not only trustful purchasers are deceived.
Particularly affected are 50 gram gold bullions. A counterfeiting of this size can consist of a simple tungsten plate as nucleus, however, also tantalum or lead-tin have already caused surprises. The thin gold coat around the nucleus is embossed and unobtrusive. Frequently investors are less sceptical at smaller bullions and a detailed inspection is neglected.
A lead-antimony-alloy around a nucleus out of tungsten gives the structure the softness of gold. The following coating with genuine gold is very convincing. An X-ray fluorescence analysis sampling of the bullion or an etched line test does not recognize the plagiarism.
Some years ago there was a spectacular gold counterfeiting in Ethiopia. The local National Bank purchased several hundred kilogram gold with a false nucleus. In New York an experienced gold dealer acquired several 300 gram gold bullions with tungsten nucleus. In 2009 the media reported on tungsten gold bullions which were transferred from Fort-Knox (USA) to China. The counterfeiting had serial numbers and a certificate. Cases from various European countries also have been revealed, which mostly were discovered by coincidence.
Due to the high gold price also counterfeiting of coins is profitable in the meantime. From a false marking over the reduction of the precious metal content until a cheap nucleus everything is possible.
If you are not sure, whether your metal investments represent the value, which you hope for, then have your precious metal professionally verified. Professional analysts get to the nucleus of the metal in a non-destructive manner. -
3. Gold analysis - inspection methods
We examine gold with the following methods:
-
3.1 Ultrasound
Ultrasonic waves distribute in the respective metals with a certain speed. We use this fact for the analysis of your precious metals. Foreign inclusions can be safely and rapidly recognized by our measuring technology which is easy to handle. -
3.2 Density determination
To determine the volume of the body which is to be tested we use the so-called pycnometer. By means of the pycnometer a repeatable volume of liquids can precisely be described. After weighing the empty and filled pycnometer and the metal which is to be tested our evaluation software can calculate the density of the metal. -
3.3 Magnet scales
We use the fact that all materials have a weak magnetism with different characteristic features, which is 1000 times weaker than, for example, the one of iron. By means of our special magnet scales we can safely and rapidly determine gold coins and gold bullions in connection with the density determination.
